Tantra

Ahh, Tantra…

Ok, I must admit to being something of a grammarian and certainly a sex nerd.

As such, let's start by defining our terms…

We've got Eastern Tantra and Western, or Neo Tantra. For a definition of Eastern I like this quote from David Gordon White:

"Tantra is that Asian body of beliefs and practices which, working from the principle that the universe we experience is nothing other than the concrete manifestation of the divine energy of the godhead that creates and maintains that universe, seeks to ritually appropriate and channel that energy, within the human microcosm, in creative and emancipatory ways."

This isn't the Tantra you're likely to find taught in the United States, unless you go through a load of buddhist training, build relationships, find a guru willing to take you on and dedicate an awful lot of time.

Much more probably, you're looking for Western or Neo Tantra.  A practice of juicy, spiritual sex and connection with yourself, a partner or partners.  Neo tantra borrows terms and some practices from Eastern Tantra, but the two are really very different.  Though the best of Neo does still seek to channel energy in creative and emancipatory ways.

The style of Tantra I share, is Neo.  I've read books, attended Pujas and classes, meditated on what feels right for moving energy for me.  My style is my own, as is true of most Neo tantra teachers.  My practice turns out to be highly individualized.  I won't sit you down and launch into predetermined lesson 1, 2, 3…
Rather, we'll talk, possibly while snuggling, and share thoughts and questions about where you are in your sensual journey, and where you'd like to go.  I feel this approach frees your intuition and mine to lead us in the right direction.

 Highlights of my practice:

Creating a safe space to explore.  There aren't 'right and wrong' ways to find your path to beautiful spiritual energy.  If we get stuck or confused, we'll gently pause and explore the tangle, until it unfolds it's lesson.

Individual human experience is a larger influence for me than are gender stereotypes.  I feel gender is a social construct.  Many Neo Tantra books and practitioners talk at length about "male vs female energies"  I don't.  I find it uncomfortably limiting.  Strength crosses gender, as do the desires to be touched, nurtured, to experience one's self as enfolding, protecting, beautiful. We'll talk about your experiences on your human path.  Different people are different, and that's wonderful.

I delight in sharing such techniques as eye gazing, breath work (not breathplay!), positions, toning, chakra meditations as metaphor, Pujas of various sizes, writing, exploration of all of our senses, book reports, guided visualizations…  To name just a few of the facets we might choose to utilize.

Please, feel welcome to ask questions, of yourself and of me.
